Once, a poor wood-cutter lived in a big forest.   He had a boy named Hansel and a girl named Gretel.

Their mother went up to heaven, when they were young.  Alone, the father could not care for them.

The father remarried, so his children would have a mother.  But his new wife was mean and evil.
