| Jacob Grimm was
born in 1785 in present-day Germany. His brother Wilhelm Grimm was born one year
later. They worked as librarians and professors. People
were beginning to forget the old stories. So the Grimm Brothers gathered and preserved
many authentic German folk tales by putting them in books. Wilhelm
selected and arranged the stories. Jacob edited, paying attention to the language
and messages of each story. The brothers' stories include magic, talking animals,
and lessons on right and wrong. The
Grimm Brothers used these folk tales to show that Germans shared a common culture.
They were also interested in unifying and preserving German language and together
wrote a German Dictionary. |
