A man and his two teenage sons; the older son is smiling, the younger one is looking up perplexed, his index finger on his chin.

A man once lived with his two sons.  His elder son was smart and sensible.  He learned easily.

He knew many skills and trades.  However, he was also very vain.  Everyone praised him.

The other son was a couple of years younger.  Moreover, he was not particularly bright.

He also had very little common sense.  Few lessons motivated him.  No one encouraged him, either.
