The next time the little boy sought Uncle Remus out, he found the old man unusually cheerful.

The old man's old joints had ceased to trouble him for now.

So he was even disposed to be boisterous.

He was singing when the little boy got near the cabin.
The child paused on the outside to listen to the vigorous but mellow voice of the old man.

The little blond boy is creeping up to the doorway of Uncle Remus' cabin. He is wearing a light blue shirt and an eager smile on his face. Inside the cabin, Uncle Remus, a bald black man with a grey beard and mustache, is sitting on the dark blue floor, whistling. He is wearing a green shirt and gray pants, and holding a wooden rod in his right hand. Musical notes in the air near his mouth show he is singing.
